The Tannehill community app

Your community.
Your marketplace.

Welcome to the digital home of the Tannehill Marketville Collective, an active community economic development pilot in Austin, Texas.

Before entering, we'd like to introduce the community, explain a few things that make our approach different, and invite you to participate in building a stronger local economy.

The story behind Tannehill

What if prosperity began in our own neighborhood?

The Tannehill Marketville Collective began with a proposition: what if neighbors could organize their economic activity to increase household income, support local enterprise, and eventually fund services that benefit the community itself?

The pilot takes its geographic inspiration from Austin's Tannehill Creek Watershed. It was conceived as a living laboratory for the Anti-Fragile Playbook, bringing together the work of Future Story Lab and 214 Alpha.

This short video introduces the original vision, including the relationship between local economic activity, community stewardship, and the watershed we share.

Identity and accountability

Real people. Real relationships.

We believe a healthy community depends upon trust, and trust requires some measure of accountability.

That's why the Tannehill community environment emphasizes authentic participation rather than anonymous or fictitious identities.

Identity verification helps establish that participants are who they claim to be. It does not guarantee that everyone will agree, behave perfectly, or become trustworthy simply by creating an account.

Community boundaries

A community is not the entire internet.

The Tannehill app is intended to serve a particular community and its economic relationships. It isn't designed to be another public social network where everyone on Earth is automatically entitled to participate.

Communities need the ability to establish their own purposes, membership expectations, participation rules, and methods of administration, consistent with applicable law.

Those boundaries are not a rejection of cooperation with the wider world. They're a way to give local relationships and local accountability a meaningful place to begin.

Belonging

Participation is organized around a community with a shared purpose, rather than an unlimited audience.

Reciprocity

The goal is to strengthen relationships in which people can create and exchange value.

Stewardship

Community administration helps translate shared principles into practical participation.

The local marketplace

Buy locally. Sell locally. Build capacity.

The community marketplace is designed to help residents and small businesses connect with buyers, offer goods and services, and build commercial relationships closer to home.

For someone with a skill, a product, or a home-based business, participating in a local marketplace can be a practical first step toward generating income.

For buyers, it offers an opportunity to discover and support the productive capacity already present in the community.

The technology behind the experiment

Seven functions of digital self-governance.

The Tannehill app draws upon technology developed by 214 Alpha. Its broader architecture brings together seven complementary functions intended to support communities that wish to coordinate more of their own affairs.

01 · Identity and verification Establishing authentic participants and accountable relationships.
02 · Contextual communication Helping people communicate within a shared community environment.
03 · Marketplace Supporting the exchange of goods and services.
04 · Financial coordination Connecting economic activity with appropriate payment and financial tools.
05 · Reputation economy Helping participants build accountable histories of interaction.
06 · Adjudication Providing a framework for addressing disagreements and disputes.
07 · Governance Supporting collective decisions, rules, and institutional stewardship.

These describe the broader 214 Alpha architecture. Individual functions may be introduced or configured at different stages of the Tannehill pilot.
